Focus: This unit covers the scheduled servicing of haul trucks and their operation on a work site as part of the roles of carrying out the testing, maintenance, servicing, delivery, demonstration and handover of the machine.

 

This unit does not cover the operation of the machine in production, stockpiling and loading of bulk materials.

 

Prerequisites:

  • Work Safely Training (mandatory unit)
  • 100 hours spent operating a haul truck (may have been undertaken with mentor)

Specific skills

  • Detailed knowledge of haul truck components
  • Planning and preparation for service
  • Daily checks
  • Routine servicing (including 10 hr, 50 hr, 100 hr, 250 hr services)
  • Basic operation

Employees

This course provides employees with the knowledge required to ensure the haul truck is maintained to manufacturer and site recommendations.

Employers

As an employer you will ensure that your equipment is serviced and maintained to a level of optimum safety for personnel and efficiency of overall operations.

  • Collecting, analysing and organising information – by confirming work requirements with site personnel and reporting defects and damage to equipment
  • Communicating ideas and information – by giving and interpreting communications with co-workers and other personnel to control and coordinate work activities
  • Planning & organising activities – by inspecting work area for hazards and carrying out pre-operational start-up checks
  • Working with teams and others – to confirm work requirements with relevant site personnel
  • Using mathematical ideas and techniques – to assess weight of load
  • Solving problems – by identifying hazards and selecting and implementing prevention/control measures
  • Using technology – to interpret the machines instruments and warning indicators
